11Eng - 1.3 Exam (Unfamiliar Texts)

For English today, we have been given a task to give 3 pieces of advice I could give to someone aiming for high excellence in the unfamiliar text exam.

• If you see a language feature used, instead of just pointing it out, also add how it made us feel. Use personal voice which is saying what you feel about the text or how it changes your perception of life or even how it connects to something you have experienced.
• You have to go into detail about the emotional effect the text had.
• Maybe add what the author has incorporated into the text from some experience he had in his life.
• Appreciation for the text. Don't make it bland and say "it was okay" but actually go in depth about it.
• Talk in depth about the effect of language features.
• Author's purpose of language features.
• Evaluate or give reasons explaining how well language features work within the text
• Have detailed answers to show a full and deep understanding.
• Explain detailed connections between language features
• Explain and build previous statements and avoid repetition.
• Make mature observations about the text and respond to how you personally feel.

Another task we have been given is summarising the difference between Achieved, Merit and Excellence.

In order to get excellence in the unfamiliar texts exam, you would need to build on previous statements and avoid repetition. Making mature observations about the text and responding personally to the text is something that is not required for merit. You would also need to have detailed answers to show a full and deep understanding of the text.

[11ENG] Creative Writing Practice 12/02/2019

Here is my writing piece that I added from The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.

I started at *.

 “I live in New York, and I was thinking about the lagoon in Central Park, down near Central Park South. I was wondering if it would be frozen over when I got home, and if it was, where did the ducks go? I was wondering where the ducks went when the lagoon got all icy and frozen over. I wondered if some guy came in a truck and took them away to a zoo or something.* Or if they just flew away. Maybe even hiding somewhere, warming up with the little ducklings." As I think about the lagoon I also think of the sky how beautiful it looks with the purple-blue fade overcrossing the whole New York City. As night falls, I go back to thinking about the lagoon. Seeing the trees wave side to side. I think of the fog, slithering like a snake, trying to find its prey. As the sun rises, I think of when the snow will melt away and if the ducks come back and enjoy Central Park as they did before.

10DTE Future Technology - Laser Cutting and 3D Printing.

Laser Cutting

What is Laser Cutting?

Laser cutting is a technology that cuts materials with a laser mostly used with optics. It is normally used for industrial use and is starting to be used by schools, hobbyists etc.

The outcome

The outcome of a laser cut object normally turns out great as long as you use the right material and match it with the correct amount of power level.

What does it look like?

3D Printing

What is 3D Printing?

3D Printing is a process where material is joined or solidified through computer control to created 3-dimensional objects. It is when a material is being added layer by layer to create the final product.

The outcome

The outcome of a 3D printed object isn't really that great. A 3D printer is usually really small and can make it look very pixelated. 3D printing is recommended for prototypes or mock-ups for a creation.

What does it look like?

What I created for the 3D printing project.

For the 3D printing project, we had to create something with a 3D printer that relates to Future Technology. I created a hovering table that hovers to you when you need it. It comes with a magnetic cup holder so your drink wouldn't fall off the table as it hovers to you. It has these projecting crystals that allow you to read the news as it is projecting in 3D above your table. It also comes with a solar panel charger that charges your table just by placing the table on top of the charger. When the table is not needed, the table will hover back to its charger to recharge for its next use! 

Discovery - Passion Projects 29/11/2018

Today was our final day to create our project, creating ice cream with dry ice and serving it in a chocolate bowl. We had a rocky start when we were creating the chocolate bowls as we got the wrong kind of chocolate. As the weeks progress we made improvements each time we did practical.

Our final product turned out alright as there were 2 flavours which was enough, we had 1 flavour which turned out awful as the mixed berry flavour was too overpowering. The other 2 flavours which turned out very nice were the oreo and apple flavour. The oreos turned out great whilst the apple flavour had minor setbacks like the skin was in the ice cream. Overall, I am proud of what I have created and happy that it turned out better than I had expected. Here are some pictures of our ice cream.

Discovery - Passion Projects 22/11/2018

Today we finally created our final product (which does need a bit more practising). We created chocolate bowls out of balloons and made ice cream out of dry ice! It was a lot of fun creating this and here are some photos of our final product.
